This is mainly related to the current state of the property market, but often not in the way we might think. Most of the time, we assume that it is bought by people who have no other option – they simply do not have enough money for a family house. But it turns out that this is only one group of people who are interested.Another is investors who want to make money from the flat, mainly by renting it out and selling it later. However, nowadays more and more people are buying it essentially as a reserve, an investment for old age that will not directly benefit them financially. That does not mean that it will not pay off. The plan here is different. These people usually live in a family home, renting out the apartment to make some extra money. However, unlike investors, they do not intend to sell it over time unless they have to. It is their plan for when they are retired.We all know that the older we get, the worse our physical condition and, above all, our health deteriorates. Few pensioners have the drive, energy and ability to look after even a small family home. A home is much easier to maintain, so it is not surprising that they want to move into one in old age.Then there is the question of finances. In retirement, our income will drop whether we like it or not. And it probably goes without saying that maintaining a family home is considerably more expensive than maintaining an apartment. So if we move into one in old age, it may help solve our financial situation in retirement.So it is understandable that many people buy a flat when they are young to move into it when they are old. However, it is true that no one can know what the property market (and not only the property market) will look like in a few decades. Here too, therefore, it is necessary to proceed with discretion.
