Posters hung crookedly, slapped up haphazardly with duct tape or glue sticks, have long been a staple of many college dorm rooms. Among the most familiar themes, you’ll surely recall Star Wars motifs, posters depicting various types of alcohol or marijuana, all sorts of motivational quotes, or a replica of the Mona Lisa from a summer weekend in Paris. Not that there’s anything wrong with any of that, but many people feel that this kind of decoration doesn’t belong in a “grown-up” interior. That, however
, is a mistake. A well-chosen piece can liven up a room better than the obligatory
.
· Match it with the interior
The advantage of a poster is that it can be easily taken down from the wall and replaced with a different motif. There is therefore no reason why you couldn’t coordinate the wall decoration with the rest of the room. You can go in two directions: either choose simpler motifs in a few colors at the store, or, if the entire decor is more subdued, make the poster the focal point of the entire space. A group of several smaller, thematically connected pieces can also look interesting.
· Quality Mounting
As we’ve already mentioned, one of the reasons so many people consider this type of decoration cheap is the poor-quality mounting system. Even the most beautiful piece will look cheap if you slap it onto the wall with a piece of tape. So have your favorites framed, or better yet, get a wall-mounting system. You can choose simple wooden hangers, or plastic and metal solutions where the poster is inserted; thanks to the transparent plastic front, it will be visible but also protected from dirt or interference from children’s hands or pets.
· Autograph
If you have the opportunity and want to fully demonstrate your love for a favorite movie or band, get your hands on a signed copy. You’ll have to search a bit, and for icons like Star Wars, be prepared to spend a few thousand crowns, but as a collectible, it’s an absolutely unique item.
